The lovely goth Cassie SinClair, from the Wotch ([link]
). I did this in a whirlwind weekend back in October 2003, and this is the first portrait where I really started to take the art more seriously. Anne and Lilly were tests: If I could do them well, and people liked them, then I'd continue; if not, then it'd be over. But they went well, so I sat down and really worked on getting Cassie right
...which is not to say that there isn't anything wrong here. Looking back at this, the shape of her neck drives me crazy and needs to be changed badly. The shading on her shirt and coat could stand to be smoother. And her hands are too big (Megan Giles claimed in the comments on one of her pictures that you can never draw hands too big, and usually she's right about that sort of thing, but here I really did
draw them too big, and it shows).
But overall, she's still pretty good, I think, and a lot of people liked this picture when I first put it on-line. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess.
