A pregnant pause followed the question, and the words lingered in the air for a moment and then drifted out over the veranda into the windless night. The moon inched a little farther into the sky as the last wisps of the sunset vanished over the western horizon. Maria took a deep breath and smiled. A thin lock of her blue hair slipped over the side of her glasses and brushed against her nose. She nodded gently. "I promise," she said.

This is the finished version of this picture, probably around 40 hours or so of work total. I'm not entirely happy with her hands or the potted plant, but otherwise, this picture came out pretty good.

This is 100% vector art, done entirely in CorelDRAW with a mouse.

And no, I don't know what she's promising, but I'll bet the rest of the story is pretty darn interesting ;-)

I can't help but wonder what request she's responding to.

...And just my luck, I'm drawing a blank of something silly to fill in the blanks.

Great pic, but how the hell did you do all this on a mouse?

Also the "I promise" gives me one very good idea, which seems to suit what'sgoing on here.

I've tried using tablets, and I just can't seem to get the hang of them. I'm not that good with just pencil-and-paper either. Vector art and a mouse just fits the way I think.

"One very good idea"...?

Make sense, Pencil and paper is my way though, as for only having 1 good idea, it started out as many ideas, but I thought it was better to just have one good idea!

So far, the picture I originally noted is the one that inspires me the most.

In that picture, she's gentler, soft, withdrawn, a little sad about something, looking up at you as though she doesn't want you to see she's been crying but can't entirely hide it. It makes you want to ask her why she's sad, and maybe try to help her or comfort her in some way, to ask what's wrong and see if you can help. It inspires a complex emotion in the viewer, not merely in the artist, and that's what makes it a little inspiring to me as well.

My argument has always been that you can't really do a great drawing with a bar of soap. That would be explaining the difficulty of creating an image as delicate as this with a mouse and in...........Gahhh!!!...CorelDraw no less!?
Well...I guess that makes it even more impressive.

Vector also is a difficult medium to master and you seem to have gotten a nice hand in it. I speak from experience to that effect. All my digital rendering was done in Freehand Vector style for a long time before i got a system powerful enough to run Photohop. Now those really nice pieces might be lost to me forever because Freehand got bought by Adobe and abandoned. I moved on. But fondly look at the prints I have archived as mementos of that period.
I have only one image that represents the vector attempts in my gallery (rasterized for final use and posting) here and that is the Winter Centauress. That was done all in vector...with a mouse!

The hands give it the feeling of the old Japanese and Chinese masters who rendered hands in a similar delicate and symbolic/representational style. it actually adds to the delicacy of the image and you shouldn't apologize for it....it works.

The image and the verbal framing is intriguing and I would love to read and know and of course...SEE more.
Very nice.

Vector art's really the only medium that's consistently worked for me. I've tried working with pencils and brushes; I've tried working with a tablet and Photoshop; but none of those really seem to fit me. With vector art in CorelDRAW I can actually make appear the things I see in my head; with every other medium, I just produce garbage.

That said, I've never liked drawing hands, and hers are no exception. Faces, bodies, those I can do, but hands still drive me crazy, and hers still look wrong to me (of course, pretty much all hands look wrong to me).

The mark of a really good work is if you want to know and see more, I think. It should tell a good story but leave the viewer wanting more :)

Well friend your work sure leaves me wanting more so I guess, by your definition it's Real Good! LOL
My curse has always been feet. I have an incredibly deep foot fetish (among many fetishes) and when I first started drawing in Pen & Ink it always gave me a real pain in the ego not being able to visualize my own damn fetish! Imagine that frustration! But having studied it enough I finally got it right. The secret? I started tracing and try to find easier quicker ways of tracing the foot to get that just right expression or feel to it. Within a very short period of time it clicked and now roughing feet out is a breeze.

It was also true with hands.

Wow, the shading definitely looks amazing, and the completed background is fantastic! I think your hands are getting pretty realistic too - even the 'blocky' forms of them look a lot better then most people can get! :)
