No Swimming - PG by phantom-inker No Swimming - PG by phantom-inker
Melanie hadn't been having the best of days. The weather was too hot and sticky, which meant that hiking was definitely not the best way to spend her time, but she wasn't going to waste one of her precious vacation days this week just because the weather was bad. And then there was the stone in her hiking boot and the nasty little blister that grew from it. But at last, things seemed to have gotten better, because high up in these hills she found a hidden spring, cool and refreshing, surrounded by thick undergrowth. Nobody could possibly be around, so she quickly stripped and dove headfirst into the cool, soothing waters. Surfacing on the far side of the pool, though, she saw a furred body trailing out behind her, and then she saw the warning sign buried in the bushes: Her luck was three for three today... but at least the blister was gone.

This is the PG-rated "clothed" version, which some people might prefer. You can find the original "topless" version here.

I asked my fiancée to hunt through some photographs a few days ago and pick one out, because I wanted some artistic inspiration, and she found a picture of a woman walking through the water and suggested that she would look really good as a centaur. Songbird picked out a hairstyle for her, and when she described what she was thinking, I immediately matched it in my mind with a great drawing by the incredible Ric Quiroz that I'd seen some years ago, and this is the result.

In Ric's picture, the woman saw the "Mermaid Transformation Pool" sign, didn't think it was real, and jumped right in. In this, well, poor thing, she couldn't see the sign under all those bushes. Oh, well, there has to be a cure in these hills somewhere... right? Right?

I'm dedicating this picture to Ric, whose works have inspired me for years, and who is now having a hard time drawing because he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).

The lineart was, in total, about six or seven hours of work, and then the coloring part was about another thirteen or fourteen hours, give or take a little bit of wrestling with CorelDRAW.

(This is entirely vector art in CorelDRAW from start to finish, but I had some real headaches trying to export it because of bugs surrounding CorelDRAW 11's implementation of lenses and PowerClips: If you use lenses, you're likely to run into a bit of trouble, and CorelDRAW (and Corel Photo-Paint) crashed several times trying to handle this, mainly because (A) the exported version is incredibly large so that it could be able to be a print, and (B) lenses make CorelDRAW unhappy. So in truth, I exported this as several separate chunks and then overlaid them in Photo-Paint to keep CD's exporter from crashing. But it's still all vector art, and if CD hadn't been so cranky about exporting, I wouldn't have had to do any bitmap work at all.)

And apparently, in addition to liking hiking, Mel's a gamer. Who knew?

It would be cool if there was a Centaur Transformation Pool, if there was, I would find it, swim in it, my human legs would transform into horse legs, and a body of one, and I'll get out on all 4 legs.

Um... I'm not sure what you're seeing. There's horse-body and water there, and that's really about it.

Well, right under her stomach (under where the horse-body starts), it looks like there might be a *vagina* there or something.

That's what I meant.

Oh, no, no... that's natural equine musculature: Those are pectoral muscles.

Compare some of these photos and you'll see:

Well... I usually don't take requests or commissions, but since you're asking for a very specific centaur TF, my absolute favorite kind of drawing, I'll at least hear you out. I make no guarantees I'll draw anything, but I'd at least be willing to read a description of what you'd like to see, if you're willing to provide such a description.

She was in the same Centaur transformation water that your oc was and she was wearing that top in the centaur picture and changed in to her swimming cloths but before she did she turned in to a centaur

here is information about her [link] Alyrida Cyra age 20 looks like she would be that age

her swim suit is the same design on her top but the fuzzy thing is not on there and the strings on the sleeves are the same for the straps of her swim top and yes I have permission to use this one because she allowed me to adopt her and I gave a name which is Alyrida Cyra but she still havnt put the name in the artist comments yet and I dont know why ???? I hope she remembers me adopting her

Interesting, to be sure. I might be inclined to draw another picture of her, not necessarily dropped into the same magic pool, but something perhaps. Certainly "girl turned into centaur" is one of my favorite topics to draw, so you've at least piqued my interest, which is more than a lot of people have done. Requesting that is no guarantee I'll draw it, but it's far more likely than any other request might be.

Can you better describe that swimsuit, though? I can't quite picture what you described in your last posting.

I'll think about it. I don't think I'd draw her in the transformation pool, but she seems like an interesting character to draw.

Anyway, you did one amazing job on this! The shading and water/sparkle effects are just stunning! May be me, but I like this one better than the nude one XD

If I became a centaur, it shouldn't be a problem for me to walk to a neighboring town. But it'll be hard to take a seat in a church or in a bookstore. Or even cosplaying.

Not to mention problems with even simpler things like fitting through narrow doorways, trying to climb stairs, squeezing into elevators, and don't even think about trying to travel by airplane. Still... there's something to be said for being able to jog to work every day ;)

Ironically, my Dad works for Continental. If centaurs coexist with humans, designers should come up with a bigger and sturdy aircraft. Traveling by sea is expensive and dangerous when it comes to piracy nowadays. And there should be more ramps in buildings, too. Y'know, I've seen a couple of foreign ads with centaurs on YouTube. They were strange, but interesting.

I have no doubt that anyone else would have the same expression if that happened to them. That expression is sort of a generic "WTF!?" look, and fits the scene pretty well.

Well, it wouldn't make sense if the thing was still sitting on the log, now, would it? Generally when I'm drawing or writing, I try to think, "What would the character do?" And in this case, Melanie came up the hill hiking, bringing her shirt, pants, bra, underwear, boots (behind the log where you can't see them :D) and backpack with supplies in it (also behind the log :D), and presumably nothing else; why bring swimwear or spare undergarments when you're going hiking? So there can't be two bras, and therefore the one bra is either on her shoulders or on the log, but it can't be on both. Simple enough logic :)
