People get very frustrated with me in political talks because I'm not a hardcore liberal and I'm not a hardcore conservative. I'm a centrist, a moderate, one of those most difficult voters to win over, not because I don't think about politics --- far from it! --- but because I am utterly distrustful of anyone --- anyone --- with an extreme view of the world. Bible-thumping abortion-clinic-bombing warmonger? Go take a few bottles of Prozac and leave me alone. Tree-hugging bleeding-heart vegan composter? Don't come back until you've learned how to use a fork and spoon.

So this stamp is for everybody left out by the political process, the people for whom a moderate stance is the result of careful thought and decision, not the indecision that the media wants to make it out to be.

(And for those who are curious, since I know you are, I'm a slightly-libertarian-leaning centrist; I'm slightly economically conservative and slightly socially liberal, but not a lot, and I have the test scores to prove it. I watch the evening news every day, read the newspaper regularly, and am one of the most informed people you'll meet, and I choose to dislike both George Bush and Al Gore. I think Al Franken and Rush Limbaugh are both nuts, and that the Sierra Club and Halliburton both have major problems. I respect a reasoned argument over an emotional argument every time, and, in short, I actually think with my brain.)

LOL :iconkriscynical: IS cynical.

Yeah, I'm liberal but I think that liberalism can be taken too far. At times I just don't give a shit and wish people would stop whining. Personally I think that policies don't work because there are always EXCEPTIONS to the rules, handfuls of cases that need exempts or whatever. The thing is, it is always a bad idea to generalize, especially in politics, but people do it all the time. :/

Hey, I got this screen name for a reason. About 15 years ago an internet friend of mine sent me a poem he'd found, saying "I thought it sounded nice and Kris cynical." It just kind of stuck after that. :XD:

Good for you. Would you prefer a gold star or a cookie?

If people hate you in political discussions it's more than likely not because you're a moderate but rather because you apparently think you're smarter than them because you're a moderate. To imply that liberals and conservatives don't use their brains, read/watch the news, or keep themselves informed is less a sign of enlightenment and more a sign of not using that intelligence you seem to think is so special. Common sense should dictate that simply being liberal or conservative in your political opinions doesn't automatically make a person a hardcore extremist in either direction, nor does it mean they don't "think with their brains". You're a moderate because your opinions fall under that heading, not because you're smarter than anyone else.

nah, you can be on either side... But all the parties involved have to work toward the same goal... I think our parties are working too much toward their own goals... "special interests" as the media calls it.

Funny how moderates always think of themselves as the thinking, rational independents, but polls show that moderates know the least about politics. Strangely enough, that even includes those who, as you do, claim to watch the news and read the newspapers daily.

The way I've come to see it, moderates either don't know enough, and therefore can't find a position, or they clearly are a fringe element of some extreme while touting around the facade of moderation in order to hold onto some semblance of credibility.

Sure, the smartest lot in America is the least active, least effective, and does absolutely nothing. And its full of geniuses who make no substantial arguments, call you stupid, then accuse you of being irritable.

Why not try posting an actual argument in your next comment? Rather than just another "We're the smartest, you are teh dum." (Which sounds like many of those on the far-right/left) Though by assuming you may even be capable of rational argumentation, maybe that means I am stupid.

You truly are as dumb as a human being can possibly be. I've met mentally retarded people with a better ability to reason than you've displayed here. The only way I can rationalize your existence is if your parents were alcoholic crack addicted siblings, who then raised you on a steady diet of alcohol, crack, and bleach. You are an abomination of the human species and I hope you die in a fire.

I don't think it's dead yet. I personally find value in the tenets of both sides of an argument, although I tend to discount the most extreme viewpoints just as a matter of course. There's balance in the middle, and I'm a firm believer that if we really search for it, for that position that takes the best of both sides and asks for just a little compromise from both sides as well, we'll find it, and it'll be the right answer for everybody.

I live in a conservative area with conservative relatives and have several friends who are liberal and a few who are conservative. I get to hear both unreasoned sides daily, and I find the line between them to be the most satisfying and rational.

I'm a very very liberal person, however unlike my other friends on the left wing, I understand and respect the concept of compromise. Yes, what most conservatives believe pisses me off to no end, and yes I do believe that what they want to do would be detrimental to this country. But we are a Democracy, and that means that they get to have just as much a say in what the government does as anybody else, which means that we must compromise to get anything done. Good governance means being willing to put aside your most extreme views to try to achieve the most amount of progress you can get. In short politics is the art of the possible.

There really is no such thing as a centrist or a moderate. If you gather all the political polls, you will realize that none of the results are very consistent. That is because there is no moderate or centrist way of thinking. Moderates are either progressively leaning or conservative leaning, but less passionate in their views. They are also less vocal. People like you tend to think that both sides are equally as bad, but that is not true. There is no reason to believe "middle of the road" positions are inherently better than "extremist" ones. In some cases the "extremist" position is vastly superior to the "moderate" one. Also, PewResearch, the smartest group are actually liberal, not moderate. Just saying.
