I really, seriously have no explanation for this. It's an unnamed cecaelia girl (half octopus) climbing... something, and looking really startled. I drew her tonight in about four hours, and I'm not really sure what the intent was. I think it was more an exploration of how to draw cecaelia tentacles in an unusual position than it was anything else.

My wife thinks she was exploring a large boat anchor when the ship suddenly started to pull it in. That's as good a guess as any, I guess ^^;

Ugly hand is ugly.

Have you ever read "The New Dinosaurs" by Dougal Dixon? It's a book (highly dated now) that looked at how life on earth might have evolved if large, non-avian dinosaurs didn't go extinct. Admittedly much of it involves Mesozoic lineages convergently evolving forms like modern species, eg. the Lank, a long-necked, flightless, herbivorous pterosaur that looks like a giraffe.

My point? One of the species entries was the Coconut Grab, an amphibious ammonite based on modern coconut crabs. Both live in tropical waters and periodically climb palm trees along the shoreline to tear open coconuts. THIS is the first thing that came to mind when I saw this, an octomaid climbing a palm tree for coconuts XD

I like the way the tentacles are gripping. It makes her look so lifelike. Did you use a photo of a real 'pus for reference? :?

No. Just have a good imagination, I guess.

I think this is one of your best scraps. A colored version with a full background of her on a boat anchor would be incredibly awesome.

You seems to have captured her pretty well.
Just gotta love the image!
Looks like a "PlayGround" for girls with tentacles ..

I like it a lot, and I love the anchor idea. And so called "ugly" hand kicks my ugly hands' asses...err...palms?

its not an anchor, its a cable on a suspension bridge. also that explains why she looks kind of nervous if she is afraid of heights

Hehe. Cool pose! I don't care that it doesn't have an explanation, I think the swirly tentacles are great all on their own! Nicely done!
